Last week, the UK’s Met Office announced that global temperatures are about to exceed a 1 degree Celsius rise compared to pre-industrial levels. Climate scientists predict that, on current course, we will exceed a 2 degree Celsius rise this century. Visual artist Nickolay Lamm has created images to graphically illustrate what this will mean for some of the world’s greatest cities. The images are based on Climate Central’s sea level map data. Climate Central’s data does not take into account the continuation of current land subsidence or uplift nor the West Antarctic collapse. If collapse has in fact begun, all locked-in sea levels would be higher than shown.
